Representatives from the Oak Ridge Power Squadron (ORPS) will hold a check presentation ceremony to present a major contribution to Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful (KTNRB), a river cleanup nonprofit. The donation will be the largest private contribution that KTNRB has ever received.
ORPS is a unit of the United States Power Squadrons that was established in 1947 and KTNRB is the first Keep America Beautiful affiliate in the nation to focus solely on a river. To date, KTNRB has rallied over 4,000 volunteers to remove 633,000 lbs. of trash from the seven-state Tennessee River watershed.
Immediately following the check presentation, local volunteers will board KTNRB’s two 26-foot aluminum work boats to participate in a Melton Hill Lake cleanup as the kickoff event of KTNRB’s 2024 river cleanup calendar.
There is still room in the boats for more volunteers. To register, visit www.KeepTNRiverBeautiful.org/meltonhill.
